CSCI 450 Computer Architecture – Term project specifications

Please find your teammates and choose 1 of the topics below:

1. CPU – GPU interaction (1 person)

2. Floating point ALU (1 person)

3. An overview of GPU (2 persons)

4. An overview of Networks-on-Chip (2~3 persons)

5. Dual data cache (3~4 persons)

6. Multiple branch prediction and branch data cache (4 persons)

7. Other projects – students may choose any topic related to computer architecture. However, if you propose your own project, you should get the approval from the teacher, and your team should not have more than 3 persons.

You should write a report and prepare for a presentation. The length of the report and the duration of the presentation depend on the number of members in your team and the topic you choose. Please refer to the descriptions of each project topic.

· You should include the name list of your team members in your report.

· You should compose your report in your own words – do not directly copy from the material I give to you. In the case that you quote the words of the original authors, use quotation marks “”. For example,

Albert Einstein said: “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.”

· If you cite any work other than the material I give you, you should use a standard citation format. For example,

Drinking 4000 ml water a day does not have more health benefits than drinking 3000 ml water a day [1].

[1] A.J. Meinders and A. E. Meinders. “How much water do we really need to drink?” Nederlands tijdschrift voor geneeskunde 154 (2010): A1757-A1757.

· The font size of your report should be 11, and the line spacing should be 1.5. You should use a serif font (e.g. Times New Roman, Cambria). You must use the same font for the entire report. Your text should have a 1-inch margin to all the 4 edges. You can put figures in your report if necessary.

The presentation is due at 12:00 AM (beginning of the day) on the Monday of Week 15. The presentation will be done virtually, so you will need to upload either a video file, or a URL to your video online. You will also be asked to evaluate the presentation of your classmates. The peer-evaluation forms will be sent to you.

The report is due after the final exam in Week 16. Each team only needs to submit 1 copy of the report.

Grading criteria:

Every member of the same team shall receive the same grade.

10% – formatting

70% – explaining the original authors’ ideas clearly (You do not have to explain every detail. Instead, describe the key concept.) If you choose any topic except Topic 2 and 3, 10% will be based on your own comment.

20% – presentation (10% from the teacher’s feedback, 10% from other classmates’ feedback)
