Stories about Virgin Group’s CSR activitiesduring the Covid pandemic have been known all over the world and include manyaspects regarding employee support and helping troubled small companies. He evenpublished an open letter detailing Virgin Atlantic’s plan for “surviving” Covid and travelbans, and it included voluntary pay cuts for tens of thousands of employees. His nowfamous phrase “Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of youremployees, they will take care of the clients” (Tucker, 2019) shows how much thecompany cares for its employees’ needs. Researching CSR is important because manypeople still today claim that the only thing that should matter to businesses are profitsfollowing Milton Friedman’s doctrine (Friedman, 1970). The scope of Virgin Group’s CSRpolicies is too broad and includes dozens of companies, so this report will focus onVirgin Media’s commitment Digital for Good initiative that started in 2020. Its goal is tohelp over 250,000 small companies in the United Kingdom and Ireland to go digital. Literature reviewCorporate Social ResponsibilityCorporate Social Responsibility acknowledges that an organisation needs to growand survive in the long run, and in order to achieve this sustainable growth, its activitiesmust benefit the whole organisation (including employees, vendors, etc.), society ingeneral with special emphasis on the communities it operates in, and the environment(Mind Tools, 2021). These are the three pillars of Corporate Social Responsibility :1. Economic pillar: all businesses exist for a reason and that is to generate profitsand increase its owners’ wealth. Economies all over the worldwere collapsing, many businesses were closing, others were forced to adopt remotework, and many had to establish new priorities.
