This task involves a discussion of the key concepts, skills and strategies underpinning learning in Numeracy and in Number and Algebra. Two concepts (one from the number and place value sub-strand and one from a second number and algebra sub-strand) and two related skills or strategies (one from number and place value sub-strand and one from a second number and algebra sub-strand) are to be developed in this section. Your task is to briefly explain how you would introduce the concepts to students. Then you are to explain how you would teach the skills or strategies to students to support student learning in the Number and Algebra strand. Reference to the Language Model is essential. Diagrams / pictures are required to support your discussion (Maximum 1 200 words).

In this section you are to briefly outline how you would introduce to students two separate and distinct concepts (one from the number and place value sub-strand and one from a second number and algebra sub-strand) and two related skills or strategies (one from number and place value sub-strand and one from a second number and algebra sub-strand). The concepts you introduce here must be different to the one you will introduce in your lesson plan. The emphasis of these short outlines needs to be on the Specific Language – both informal and formal, that would need to be developed or used as well as the Concrete and/or Digital Materials needed to develop student understanding of these concepts and skills (e.g. Attribute Blocks or Number expanders). Reference to the Language Model is essential. Diagrams and / or pictures must also be used to support your work. The accuracy of your mathematical explanation is an important consideration in this section. You can assume that major concrete and digital materials, as used throughout the course, are also available resources in a school
